Katie Moniz is a Vice President at FPA with nearly 20 years of civil engineering and planning experience who joined the firm in 2019. She has worked extensively on urban waterfront projects, moving projects through the local, state, and federal regulatory approval process, and performing critical infrastructure vulnerability analyses and adaptive site designs to improve their climate resilience. Ms. Moniz is also a Massachusetts Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) certified provider and has worked with numerous cities and towns on their municipal climate resiliency planning and preparedness efforts. She leads complex, interdisciplinary projects and prepares permit applications for mixed use, residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional development projects under the City of Boston’s Article 80 regulatory process, the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) regulatory process, and various other local, state, and federal permitting processes.
Ms. Moniz recently managed the team for the Hyannis Harbor MVP Resilience Plan and resulted in the development of implementable actions to revitalize the harbor into an adaptive regional hub. She also manages the Island End River Flood Resilience project for the Cities of Chelsea and Everett, which included planning and permitting in the Mystic River Designated Port Area, as well as consensus building with private sector commercial and industrial property owners/operators, outreach to environmental justice (EJ) communities, and coordination with regulatory agencies. Her additional experience includes Resilient Dorchester Waterfront and the Bass River District Resilience Plan in Beverly. Ms. Moniz’s strong technical, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills helps to ensure the success of a diverse range of projects throughout New England.
Ms. Moniz holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a joint Master of Science in Urban and Environmental Planning and Civil Engineering from Tufts University. She is an active member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Climate Resiliency Committee, NAIOP Massachusetts Government Affairs Committee and Leadership Council, and the Massachusetts chapter of the American Planning Association (APA). Ms. Moniz also served as a member of the City of Medford Conservation Commission for 12 years and held the position of Chairperson for her final four years leading this Commission. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Plain Jaine Foundation, which supports charitable initiatives that benefit children in need throughout Massachusetts.
