National Development and Alexandria Real Estate Equities retained FPA to obtain the Chapter 91 license to develop the 2.7-acre property at 5 and 15 Necco Street along the Fort Point Channel in South Boston. The site was originally proposed as the General Electric Company (GE) Headquarters Project. FPA secured licenses for both the existing 5 Necco Street building and the new 12-story, approximately 316,000 square-foot building with multi-tenant/life sciences/research and development space. It will also have active ground floor uses to serve a diversity of visitors throughout the year. Key components of the project include innovative watersheet activation of Fort Point Channel, a kayak storage area, a public work lounge and touchdown space, and other public facilities on the ground floor. The project also integrates the building and landscape design into a district-level coastal flood protection system, providing flood protection well beyond the limits of the project site.
