WinnDevelopment Company LP, which was selected as a result of an open Request for Proposals issued by the Boston Housing Authority, retained Fort Point Associates to obtain local and state approvals to redevelop an existing, dilapidated four-building affordable housing project in East Boston. The redevelopment called for the demolition of the existing buildings and the construction of 52 residential units. The units are housed in two buildings located on either side of a new private way that creates a continuous six-block connection beginning at the harbor walk at the adjacent Clippership Wharf development.
Public amenities at the project include new retail space, a public bicycle storage room, and a community room facing Boston Harbor. The buildings are LEED-certifiable, and site improvements contribute to neighborhood climate resiliency through enhanced stormwater management, shade trees, and raised site grades. FPA assisted the developer with City of Boston Article 80 permitting, the state’s MEPA process, Chapter 91 waterways licensing, and Boston Conservation Commission approvals.
