FPA was retained by Friends of Daly Field, Inc., a nonprofit organization comprised of Simmons University, Brighton High School, and Allston Brighton Little League to oversee the restoration of Daly Field in Brighton and Newton, MA. Located on the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)-owned Charles River Reservation, the site contained an aging athletic field, which had fallen into disrepair and was unusable for nearly a decade.
The project provided state-of-the-art athletic facilities to accommodate a variety of community and collegiate athletic activities, including those of the Brighton High School football team, which had not had a home field for 20 years. The project faced much controversy for the required disposition of public land (Article 97) for private uses and the close proximity to the Charles River. FPA successfully managed the environmental planning and permitting and community outreach for the project, including detailed MEPA Environmental Impact Reports, extensive DCR community involvement process, Article 97 legislation, Chapter 91 tidelands licensing, and a superseding order of conditions for work in wetlands resource areas.
