As a subconsultant, FPA provided multidisciplinary services for the development of a resilience plan to protect water/wastewater and transportation infrastructure against coastal flooding in Dorchester. Our work included: participating in steering committee and stakeholder meetings to study options to mitigate flood risks; providing conceptual design and engineering strategies; performing water/wastewater and traffic/transportation infrastructure assessments; developing cost estimates; conducting a cost-benefit analysis; and completing an environmental review and regulatory permitting evaluation.
In January 2023, the team was awarded work for the City of Boston under the BPDA’s Resilient Dorchester Waterfront contract. Work under this new contract includes developing design concepts focused on the flood pathways at Tenean Beach and Victory Park, advancing infrastructure solutions to mitigate flooding, evaluating utility and transportation impacts, reviewing regulatory and permitting implications, and updating the economic cost-benefit analysis. The Tenean Beach Schematic Design and Feasibility Study was included in a successful application by the City of Boston for a Federal Emergency Management Agency Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (FEMA BRIC) grant, which was awarded in 2024.
