Wentworth Institute of Technology

FPA was retained to manage the environmental review and City of Boston permitting process for the Wentworth Institute of Technology Center for Engineering, Innovation, and Sciences (CEIS) as well as student apartments on Huntington Avenue in Boston, MA. The four-story, 78,000 square-foot CEIS building houses the Biological, Biomedical, and Civil Engineering Departments as well as laboratory, teaching and office space, and gathering spaces. The state-of-the-art Apartments at 525 Huntington house 305 upper level undergraduate and graduate students who are seeking to remain on-campus while participating in the lively urban cultural life of Boston and the Avenue of the Arts, which generated an intense local review of neighborhood impacts on traffic, parking, land use, urban design and infrastructure.

Working closely with University administration and teams of architects, engineers, attorneys, and landscape architects, FPA prepared the Article 80B Large Project Review and Article 80D Institutional Master Plan submissions for Boston Planning and Development review. These projects are two of five proposed institutional projects in the ten-year Wentworth Institutional Master Plan, which was approved in January 2011. An IMP Amendment was required to modify the location and dimensions of CEIS. A community task force is involved in reviewing all of the Wentworth institutional projects.
