Liberty Hotel

FPA managed the environmental review and permitting of Carpenter & Company's Liberty Hotel project in Boston. The project required the rehabilitation of the vacant historic Charles Street Jail and the construction of an adjacent 15-story guestroom wing for a total of 239,000 square feet of hotel space. The removal of the former jail’s perimeter security wall dramatically improved views of the historic Jail from the Charles River and improved public access to the site. The hotel accommodates meeting rooms, restaurants, a bar, an exercise area, and a small ballroom. Opened in 2007, it is the result of extensive collaboration with many stakeholders and abutters, such as the Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as local and state agencies, particularly the Boston Landmarks and Massachusetts Historical Commissions.
