John Hancock (Manulife Financial) Building

Retained by the leading Canadian-based financial services company Manulife Financial, FPA was responsible for managing the environmental review and permitting process for the development of their 470,000 square foot US Operations Headquarters in Boston’s Seaport District. This landmark building was the first major green office building in Boston, qualifying for LEED Certification. Located on a Massport ground lease parcel, the project required close coordination with Massport and the City of Boston and extensive public review and comment from the South Boston community. FPA was charged with the development of a strategic permitting plan, identification potential issues early in the process to effectuate a streamlined regulatory review process. FPA prepared an EIR/PIR and delivered all required reviews and approvals on an expedited schedule. The project was built in 2003. Manulife subsequently acquired John Hancock Life Insurance and does business in the US under the Hancock name.
